At the recent Gran Turismo World Series event in Los Angeles, fans got a closer look at what’s coming next to Gran Turismo 7 with the long-awaited Spec III update. While the official release date is still set for December 2025, several new details suggest the update could arrive sooner than expected.
In the official trailer shared by Polyphony Digital, the Yas Marina Circuit made its debut alongside the return of a true legend, the Renault Espace F1. This outrageous machine, combining a 1990s Formula 1 engine with an MPV body, will appear in Gran Turismo for the first time since Gran Turismo 2. Spec III is expected to launch in December 2025.
The Espace F1 uses the same 3.5-litre V10 engine found in the 1992 championship-winning Williams FW14, designed by Adrian Newey and driven by Nigel Mansell to that season’s title. The trailer also showcased the Yas Marina Circuit, which will be part of the same update.
Spec III does not yet have a confirmed release date beyond December 2025, but it will include both the Abu Dhabi circuit and Canada’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, along with eight new cars. Among them will be the Polestar 5 electric super-saloon, the Renault Espace F1, a fictional F3500-B open-wheeler, and several long-requested quality-of-life improvements.
One standout addition is the Spec III Polestar Time Trial, which gives players the chance to win a trip to the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals in Fukuoka, Japan, on December 20-21. To qualify, players must top the leaderboard in this special event. Since time trials usually run for two weeks, this strongly suggests that Spec III will release around December 4, 2025, a Thursday, in line with the game’s usual update schedule. While not officially confirmed, this estimate fits the event timeline and typical planning cycle.
If the schedule is tighter than usual, the time trial could be shortened to a week. Either way, the competition will coincide with the release of the Polestar 5, marking its official entry into Gran Turismo 7.
“The Spec III version of Gran Turismo 7 will arrive in December, and at the same time, we’ll host a time trial event with the Polestar car,” confirmed Gran Turismo Series Producer Kazunori Yamauchi during the Los Angeles event.
The Polestar 5 joins the roster alongside another anticipated electric super-saloon, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, which is still awaiting an in-game release date. The Polestar 5 is a powerhouse, delivering 884 horsepower and 749 pound-feet of torque from twin electric motors on a brand-new platform, with rapid 250 kW peak charging capability.
YouTuber Super GT has already given fans a sneak peek at what’s coming, including a new data logger feature that acts as a telemetry tool to analyze lap times and performance in detail.
All in all, Gran Turismo 7’s Spec III update looks packed with content, from legendary cars to cutting-edge EVs, new circuits, and competitive events. The road ahead for Gran Turismo fans is shaping up to be fast, fierce, and full of surprises.
