MOZA Racing has confirmed it will reveal its first PlayStation-compatible wheel at Tokyo Game Show 2026, which runs from 17 to 21 September at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. The announcement came via a short social post today, with the line "the wait is almost over" attached to a teaser image, and it finally puts a date on something we have been waiting on since July.

For anyone on PS5 who has watched the PC crowd get spoiled for choice while console players pick from a handful of brands, this is a genuinely significant moment.

What We Know

When Polyphony Digital announced MOZA as an official peripheral partner of the Gran Turismo World Series back in July, the press release confirmed a steering wheel controller developed in collaboration with Gran Turismo and natively supported in GT7. There was no timeline beyond a vague nod to the future. That future is now next week.

The teaser image shows the front face of a wheel base sitting mostly in shadow with a PlayStation logo clearly visible. The lighting is deliberately low, but the squared-off silhouette and the illuminated strips along the top edges bear a strong resemblance to MOZA's R16 Ultra, the recently updated 16Nm direct drive base that uses a flat-wire motor, a 21-bit magnetic encoder and a pair of RGB strips.

We would be careful about reading too much into that. A familiar outline tells you nothing about what is inside. MOZA could be dropping R16 Ultra-class internals into a PlayStation-licensed housing, or reusing the exterior around a lower-torque motor better suited to console buyers and console price expectations. The standard R16 Ultra remains a PC base, and MOZA's own product page states plainly that PlayStation is not supported.

There is also some circumstantial evidence pointing elsewhere. Two model names, the R5S Pro and the R16S Ultra, turned up in FCC regulatory filings submitted by Shenzhen Gudsen Technology on 1 July 2026, alongside a public user manual for the R5S Pro. Neither has been confirmed as the PlayStation product, so treat that as a thread worth watching rather than an answer.

Why This Matters More Than One Wheel

Force feedback wheels on PlayStation have been a very small club for a very long time. Logitech, Thrustmaster and Fanatec have held Sony's licensing between them, and MOZA has spent its entire existence on the PC side, with one detour into Xbox territory via the R3 back in 2023. Traxion reckons this makes MOZA only the fifth manufacturer to offer direct drive on PS5.

That scarcity is the whole story. PC sim racers choose between a dozen brands at every price point. Console players have had a fraction of that, which keeps prices high and innovation slower. It is also why Fanatec's recent run of partnership announcements, including the Nissan licensing deal in July, has felt like a brand defending territory rather than expanding into it. MOZA arriving properly on PlayStation does not just add a product, it adds an entire ecosystem to a market that has badly needed one.

The Gran Turismo angle makes it more interesting again. Kazunori Yamauchi has said he wants the series to natively support more wheels, and when the partnership was announced he explained that MOZA had been on his radar for years because of its camera gimbals, which depend on the same precise motor control that a direct drive base does. A wheel developed alongside Polyphony rather than certified after the fact should mean tighter integration than the usual third-party arrangement.

That distinction is not academic. We wrote about it earlier this year when FullForce arrived on the Gran Turismo DD Pro hardware but was not actually active in GT7, a gap that took until update 1.71 in August to close. Hardware being technically compatible and hardware being properly integrated are two very different things, and a wheel built alongside the game rather than certified afterwards should sidestep that problem entirely.

What We Still Do Not Know

Almost everything, frankly. No product name, no price, no torque figure. No word on whether it ships as a bare base or as a bundle with rim and pedals the way Fanatec's GT DD Pro does. No release date beyond the reveal itself, and no confirmation of whether it will carry official Gran Turismo branding alongside the PlayStation logo.

Those gaps matter because the bundle question in particular shapes who this is aimed at. A bare 16Nm base at a PC price point is a very different proposition to a GT DD Pro competitor sold as a complete entry package, and it is worth remembering how much of Fanatec's console appeal comes from the wider ecosystem around the base, including the Podium Pedals we spent time with earlier this year. A wheel base on its own is only part of the decision.

When to Expect It

Tokyo Game Show opens to business and media on Thursday 17 September, with public days running from the 19th to the 21st. Announcements of this kind usually land early in the week, so expect details around the Thursday.

Final Thoughts

We have been watching this one since the World Series partnership was announced, and it is good to finally have a date rather than a promise. MOZA has built a serious reputation quickly, and a wheel developed with Polyphony for native GT7 support is exactly what a lot of PS5 racers have been waiting for.

The honest caveat is that a shadowy teaser and a hashtag are not a product. Until we see torque figures, a price and a bundle configuration, there is no way to judge whether this competes with the GT DD Pro or sits somewhere else entirely. Next Thursday should answer that.
