Regarding the Meta Car Issue, I think, as Maximilian Kroll aka VQS_Iceman mentioned during an interview, on BoP it would be worth a shot to have additional car setup per track and not just power and weight to make the cars more equal on each track.

It happened last year on a GT-Open race on the Hockenheimring. The team manager of the Ferrari team was in a mood to give us a little tour through the box, and he mentioned that the Ferrari would not be competitive in this race because of the BoP regulations. Sadly, the cars weren't even close to fighting for a good position during the race.
So it seems that also in the real racing world, cars are not always competitive on each track.

Hello! I'm struggling with the race pace on this track. In qualy I can get mid 1:26 but in the race I keep getting like 1:29 and finishing last place. Probably going back to C if I keep it up.

Seems like with full fuel and tire wear it's just a big skating rink! No traction anywhere Tokyo Drift!

Tire strategy is normally 9 laps M 7 laps S.

I just use the 296 for every track since I enjoy it and at my level it doesn't seem to matter what car I use. I've seen people do well here with that car so I know it's just my driving.

I haven't claimed it yet but here is my profile.

Hey yeah that's me! Nice to see you here! I just put in some more practice and got my qualy down to 1:26.3 then I did a race - started 2nd and finished 4th so things are looking up! One problem I was having was half the people in the previous lobbies…

Personally really like a mix lobby. The dr points gain is significantly higher and you get to test yourself. Ultimately race craft is everything.  If you stay out of trouble your true pace will shine. Best of luck out there man!!

Hey are you the Jeremy I'm racing. If you are the North American Jeremy. It will all come together. At this level you need to keep racing and skill will come. I'm at B for a year. I just recently started Boundary riding (a/b) so things will come.

One problem I was having was half the people in the previous lobbies were A drivers so trying to follow them was exceeding my skills especially when they are in meta cars and I'm in my 296 on controller. This last race was all B's so it was more even.

My last race and qualy are uploaded if anyone has any tips. I know I'm not consistent I don't think I ever will be with controller but I still want to improve.

Thanks!

My guess is you're treating the race as a Quali lap, it's gonna be always be at 100% and overdriving the car that way and I try to stay within slipstream distance of faster cars around you till the pit cycle starts, that's what I could mostly help with as of now

Same thing for me. I started mid-March, so every single week is a new combo to learn. I'm looking forward to when I'll cycle almost all the track so that I have a previous reference to see if I improved and eventually by how much.

Again Deep forest with GR3 but honestly this track allows so many different cars to be competitive compared to some other combos + this race produces very good racing and total chaos at the same time, I did my time with Ford GT but been doing races with Aston Martin as it's acceleration suits track and rotation is not bad on most of the corners.

PORSCHE 911 GT3 R (992) '22

POPULAR OR META?

A Data-Driven Analysis of Gr.3 Competitive Performance

FEEL FREE TO SCROLL TO BOTTOM FOR CONCUSION!

Executive Summary

The Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) '22 is the most used car in Gran Turismo 7's Gr.3 category, consistently selected by 15-55% of all players each week. Despite this massive popularity, an analysis of 15 weeks of global leaderboard data reveals that the 992 is absent from the top 14 qualifying positions in 60% of events and only dominates the leaderboard in 20% of events. Its overall usage far exceeds its competitive representation at the top of the field. The data conclusively demonstrates that the 992 is a popular car, not a meta car. The community perception of it being 'overpowered' is a direct result of confusing usage frequency with competitive performance.

Methodology

Data was collected from DG-Edge (dg-edge.com), the most comprehensive independent GT7 statistics platform. For each of the 15 Gr.3 daily race events analysed, the global qualifying leaderboard was examined to determine which cars occupied the top 14-15 positions worldwide. This was cross-referenced with overall usage percentages (the proportion of total players selecting each car) and BoP acceleration statistics from GT Engine (gt-engine.com).

The analysis covers every Gr.3 daily race from the 992's release in update 1.67 (January 29, 2026) through to the current week. Tracks include a diverse range of circuit types: high-speed (Monza-type), mid-speed (Spa, Laguna Seca), low-speed (technical circuits), and endurance (Nurburgring). This diversity ensures the findings are not skewed by track selection bias.

Finding 1: The 992 Is Absent From the Top in 60% of Events

In 9 out of 15 weeks analysed, the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) had zero representation in the global top 14 qualifying positions. Despite being selected by 15-55% of all players, the car could not produce a single top-14 qualifying time in the majority of events.

This is the single most important data point in the entire analysis. A genuinely overpowered car does not disappear from the top of the leaderboard in 60% of events. By definition, an overpowered car would appear consistently at or near the top of every leaderboard regardless of track type. The 992 does the opposite.

The cars that replaced the 992 at the top during these 9 weeks included the WRX Gr.3 (3 weeks of dominance), BRZ GT300 (3 weeks), V12 Vantage GT3 (1 week), GR Supra Racing Concept (1 week), M6 GT3 Sprint (1 week), Viper SRT GT3-R (1 week), and Ford GT (1 week). Each of these cars has overall usage rates between 0.3% and 5%, compared to the 992's 15-55%. They are used by a tiny fraction of players but dominate the leaderboard when their favoured track appears.

Finding 2: The 992 Dominates Only 3 Specific Track Types

The 992 held a dominant position (70%+ of the top 14) in exactly 3 out of 15 weeks. These weeks correspond to slow-to-medium speed technical circuits where cornering ability and rear-engine traction compensate for the 992's significant straight-line speed deficit. On any track with a long straight, high-speed section, or kerb-heavy layout, the 992 cannot compete at the top.

This pattern is consistent with a car that has specific track-dependent strengths, not one that is universally overpowered. Every Gr.3 car has tracks where it excels and tracks where it struggles. The 992 is no different. The difference is that 30%+ of players use the 992 on every track regardless, which inflates the perception of its presence while the leaderboard tells a completely different story.

Finding 3: The Acceleration Data Confirms the Performance Ceiling

Under the current Balance of Performance (last adjusted June 26, 2025), the 992 is statistically the second-slowest accelerating car in the entire Gr.3 category. The data from GT Engine, which measures all 52 Gr.3 cars under identical BoP conditions, is unambiguous:

Finding 4: The Usage-to-Performance Inversion

The critical distinction between a 'popular' car and a 'meta' car is the relationship between overall usage and top-tier competitive representation. A meta car has higher representation at the top of the leaderboard than in the general population, because skilled drivers select it specifically for its competitive advantage. A popular car has the inverse: higher usage in the general population than at the top.

The 992 exhibits a clear inversion. Its average overall usage rate (~32%) is nearly double its average top-14 representation (~17%). When the 3 dominant weeks are excluded, the 992's top-14 representation across the remaining 12 weeks drops to approximately 2.5%. This means that on 80% of tracks, the 992 contributes virtually nothing to the competitive top of the leaderboard despite accounting for nearly one-third of all players.

This means that on 80% of tracks, the 992 contributes virtually nothing to the competitive top of the leaderboard despite accounting for nearly one-third of all players.

Finding 5: Identifying the Actual Meta Cars

If the 992 is not the meta car, which cars are? The leaderboard data across 15 weeks identifies the following cars as genuinely meta, defined as having low overall usage but disproportionately high representation at the top of the leaderboard when their favoured track appears:

The contrast is stark. The actual meta cars (WRX, BRZ, Vantage, Supra, M6, Viper) are used by less than 5% of players but dominate 80-100% of the top 14 positions on their favoured tracks. The 992 is used by 15-55% of players and shows an identical dominance pattern on its favoured tracks (3 weeks), but is completely absent from the top for the remaining 60% of events. The difference between the 992 and the actual meta cars is not performance. It is popularity.

Finding 6: Why the Misconception Exists

The perception of the 992 being 'overpowered' or 'meta' is driven by a well-documented cognitive bias: frequency creates perceived dominance. When a player enters any GT7 Gr.3 lobby, they will see 4-8 Porsches out of 16 cars. Over time, this constant visual presence creates the impression that the Porsche is the dominant car, because the brain equates 'everywhere' with 'best.'

The leaderboard tells a different story. The cars that are genuinely fastest on any given track are often represented by fewer than 500 players globally (compared to the 992's 15,000-50,000 players per week). The WRX Gr.3 at 0.3% usage will have roughly 150-300 players in a given week, yet it holds 86-93% of the top 14 positions on its favoured tracks. The average player will never encounter a WRX Gr.3 in their lobby because there are so few of them. But the ones who do use it are overwhelmingly concentrated at the very top of the competitive field.

This creates an invisible meta. The actual strongest cars are hidden behind low usage numbers while the most visible car (the 992) absorbs all the 'overpowered' criticism simply because it is everywhere. Players see Porsches in every race and conclude it must be the best car. The data shows the opposite: they see Porsches everywhere because it is the most liked car, and its actual competitive ceiling is significantly below the cars that genuinely dominate the leaderboard.

Conclusion

The Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) '22 is the most popular car in GT7's Gr.3 category. It is not the most competitive.

Across 15 weeks of global leaderboard data, the 992 is absent from the top 14 in 60% of events, dominant in only 20%, and ranks 51st out of 52 cars in straight-line acceleration under BoP. Its usage-to-performance ratio is inverted: massively over-represented in the general population, consistently under-represented at the competitive peak.

The community perception of the 992 being 'meta' or 'overpowered' is a product of its popularity, not its performance. The cars that actually dominate the Gr.3 leaderboard (WRX, BRZ GT300, V12 Vantage, GR Supra, M6, Viper) do so with 0.3-5% usage rates while the 992 sits in the background with 30%+ usage and no top-14 presence in the majority of events.

Popular is not the same as meta. The data proves the distinction. The argument is settled.

I used semantics for your point on the game's demographic to explain how your point doesn't hold because semantics are important in statistics. I then used semantics to explain why when you prove why the 992 isn't the overall best it's not the argument I nor anyone else was making. You then talk again about rank when it really doesn't matter much here. At this point consider getting a blue checkmark on Twitter because this would make you a lot of money. I will now enjoy this daily race C in a Renault RS 01 GT3 after being done with my quali lap in a ford gt, and I don't think I'll talk about that with you again because this felt like trying to debate with someone who clearly wants to have a bad day every day.

Your version of the game and what YOU experience is NOT the same as in the racer's I am in the experience I have playing the game in the TOP 500-1000 drivers. Your trying to compare a brick with a flower.

Your argument about averages based on the stats I ran the stats you are talking out of your a*** do the math. It's written there for you.

And now you want to argue semantics about the Porsche still being some how meta. I would really question your motives in this conversation. Are you just trying to be argumentative? You tried stats it failed an Analysis of data from multiple sources with conclusive evidence that contradicts the majority's opinion based on hard data backed proof. Feel free to check the Porsches top 100 he'll check the top 200 it will still be the same. The ONLY statistics you could find that would make the evidence fall in your favour would be running data from the top 500-30,000 the evidence for the Porsche being Meta is debunked. ITS NOT!

Your all basing your claims on opinion/feelings and your observations based on your rank and population of players that use it. Again mostly B and C. I don't see Porsches that often 90% of my races are 10-12 actual Meta cars for any given week and me in a Porsche and some quick A+ in the second or third best car for the track. Stop trying to argue with me when we play a totally different game Because we are totally different ends of the skill spectrum. You wanted data and facts I gave them to you! You don't like them don't try and use them as a basis for your arguments.

I agree that the 992 is more popular than it is meta, and that was to be expected from its announcement as it succeeds to the RSR which is probably the car I saw the most in sport mode despite its fairly average performance, however I don't think arguing that "since it's not always the best it's not meta" is in good faith, especially when in any other game the meta would design an option that is always great and can't be ignored for this reason, even if it may not be the best in all precise situations.
Sure, top 16 doesn't see the 992 that often. What about top 100? When racing, do you truly feel like you're powerless in your car? Can you pull off overtakes another can wouldn't be able to? Meta cars can't be listed by simply looking at the leaderboards and the BoP graph in my opinion (and given the 992's meta designation, many others), they need to be listen looking at a whole.
Yes, the Viper, M6 and BRZ are meta on the last 3 races. Are they meta elsewhere or are they only "local" metas? Can the cars have a fighting chance on other tracks despite their flaws? Do they even get top 100s regularly? I know for a fact that the viper isn't a general meta car, I only ever see it at daytona and deep forest, and when I see it elsewhere usually I know it's going to be a fairly easy battle if my car is slightly more suited to the track.
Compare the 992 to the rest of the cars that have a fighting chance on at least one track (basically any modern gt3, after 2015 I'd say). Is it generally worse than the Lexus? Worse than the Supra? Worse than the RSR, which still has the same average performance as before? I would argue it isn't, currently I'd say the R8 is better than the 992 as a whole, but I don't think I could see another gt3 being a better all-rounder than those two. Ultimately, the debate on the 992 being meta goes away from the original point I was trying to make: would you rather not have track selections that make different cars meta? Do you think most people prefer racing the same cars all weeks, just on different tracks?

 it's "you're" minor spelling mistake i win

More seriously, to answer that dig at B ranks that think the meta doesn't dicate all, first of all using rank here is a dumb argument and being willing to die on that hill is weird, second it's not even reallt a compelling one: the local meta dictates racing in B rank as much as in the higher ranks, if you have the same skill level as everyone else, you'll have a hard time staying away from the meta, if you are better, you can use anything else and still win, and no, this is not just a low rank thing, I've seen many A rank videos where better drivers (not always world tour drivers btw) pick worse cars and start at the back just because they enjoy climbing the pack in a car they like and they would rather enjoy themselves than play meta because their precious DR matters more than their fun. Your argument shows, once again, that you don't seem to even see the possibility that so long as no prize is on the line, you can just race for the thrill of racing. People just pick what they want according to what they seek, if they want DR above all they gravitate towards the meta and don't stray far from it, if they want personal fun or challenging conditions, they pick what they know they'll like even if it makes them worse on paper. Lower ranks allow for more choice due to the gaps in skill, true, but it doesn't erase all of it, in fact I'd say for me, about 15k DR the meta started getting more important if I wanted to win races and not just gravitate around my quali position (which I usually drive in the meta cars because I prefer starting in the middle/front of the pack). I'm only 22k now so you can probably tell what I'm doing in daily races now?

see what we've done here is first mistake the average and the relative majority, and then mistake the average and the median. B rank is the relative majority as it is the rank with the most players, the median in high C because there are an equal amount of players above and below, and the average player would be the median (high C) if we consider that all players are spread equally in all ranks, however, since we have access to the sport mode data from GT Sport, and it's fair to assume it's similar (or at least close) to GT7's Sport mode, we can see that the average player is much closer to D rank than C rank, lower ranked players simplyu don't bother with quali. Source: (Only players active during the last 3 months of GTS, website has all time stats too but they are no too different) https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?stat_preset=dr_breakdown_20_active90

also most players are not even playing sport mode due to ps+ and the low driving standard so I think TT leaderboards might be better to define the demographic of this game, although we'll definitely end up with D ranks that smash both you and I on the leaderboards
