Gran Turismo 7's Next Update Is Coming: Four New Cars Teased

A new Gran Turismo 7 update is on the way. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed it in his usual style, posting a silhouette teaser and letting the community loose on the guessing game of working out which cars are hidden in the shadows.

Yamauchi said an update is coming next week and hinted that this batch includes some fairly niche machinery. It's been a longer wait than usual too, the last update was the Hypercar Update back on 11 June, so with July passing quietly, this will be GT7's first new content in over two months.

The teaser points to four cars, and it's a genuinely varied bunch: a pair of '90s Japanese sports sedans, a modern electric performance car, and one of the fastest-accelerating road cars ever made. Here's what the community has identified as the likely lineup.

Toyota Chaser & Mark II Tourer V

Two of the silhouettes look like a matched pair, and they'll have drifting fans buzzing: the Toyota Chaser Tourer V and its sibling, the Mark II Tourer V.

Both are from Toyota's X100 generation of four-door models, sharing a platform and mechanical package but wearing different bodywork. In Tourer V trim, both run the legendary single-turbo 1JZ-GTE 2.5-litre straight-six, rated at Japan's old 280PS limit and sending power to the rear wheels. That mix of a bulletproof turbo six, rear-wheel drive, and a practical four-door body made the JZX100 one of the defining drift sedans of its era, and it's still a fixture in D1 Grand Prix and grassroots drifting to this day.

Both are returning nameplates too. The Chaser Tourer V '96 and the earlier Mark II Tourer V '92 both featured in the original Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo 2, so this is a proper nostalgia hit for long-time players.

Hyundai Ioniq 6 N

Another of the cars is expected to be the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N, the third model to arrive from the Hyundai N and Polyphony collaboration, following the Ioniq 5 N and Elantra N TC.

Revealed at Goodwood in July 2025, the Ioniq 6 N builds on the 5 N's dual-motor setup, keeping its 601hp standard output and 641hp boost figure available in ten-second bursts. That's good for 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and a 160mph top speed. A proper modern EV performance car to keep the roster current.

Caterham Seven Superlight R500

The final car is likely the Caterham Seven Superlight R500, marking Caterham's return to the series for the first time since Gran Turismo 6.

The R500 takes the classic Lotus Seven formula to its extreme. Its naturally aspirated 2.0-litre Ford Duratec four-cylinder is tuned to 263hp at a screaming 8,500rpm, and with the whole car weighing just 506kg, that works out to a ludicrous 520hp per tonne. Caterham claimed 0-60mph in 2.88 seconds with launch control, and famously the R500 lapped the Top Gear test track quicker than a Bugatti Veyron. It's going to be an absolute handful in GT7, in the best way.

What Else to Expect

As always, the car teaser is just the first stage of the update reveal cycle. Details on any other new content usually arrive closer to release, but by now we know roughly what to expect: new World Circuits races matched to the new cars, possibly an Extra Menu Book, a few engine swaps, new Scapes locations, and the usual smaller tweaks.

Worth remembering too that two new Stealth Model cars, including the Mazda 787B, are tied to the World Series Tokyo round broadcast on 15 August, with distribution set for 1 September.

Going by the usual pattern, full update details would be expected around Wednesday 12 August, with the update itself likely landing Thursday 13 August, though the "next week" wording of the teaser means the exact dates aren't locked in yet.

Final Thoughts

This is shaping up to be a fun update. The JZX100 twins are the standout for me, a pair of proper drift-ready '90s sedans returning to the series after all these years is exactly the kind of "niche" Yamauchi was hinting at, and the Caterham R500 should be a riot on the right track. Add a modern EV in the Ioniq 6 N and it's a nicely balanced four.
