The new Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial goes live on 16 July 2026 and runs for the usual two weeks, ending on 30 July 2026. This round is a one-make, the Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R '97 on Sport Hard tyres around Kyoto Driving Park Yamagiwa Reverse.

If you've been grinding the last few Time Trials, Yamagiwa will feel familiar. It's a flowing Japanese circuit with elevation changes and scenic mountain views, and in reverse the rhythm is completely different to the version most people know. The leaderboard times already suggest this one is going to separate the patient drivers from the rest.

Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R at Yamagiwa Reverse: What to Expect

The current world-best is sitting at 1:57.415, which is committed pace for a road car around this layout. Based on how Polyphony usually sets the cut-offs, I'd expect the gold target to land somewhere in the 2:00.3 to 2:00.5 range.

Here's the thing about this combo: it's a one-make, so there's no car choice to chase. Everyone's in the Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R, which makes the whole Time Trial about driving rather than meta-hunting. The FTO is a front-wheel-drive '90s coupé, so it drives completely differently to the rear- and mid-engined cars we usually get. Expect understeer to be your main enemy, and expect to be managing the front tyres through every corner.

Final Thoughts

The Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R at Yamagiwa Reverse looks like a proper grinder, and a different kind to the usual. A front-wheel-drive '90s coupé on Sport Hards is a real test of patience and precision, and being a one-make makes it a pure driving challenge. The 1:57.415 already on the board is strong, and I'd expect the WR to drop a second or so by the end of week one as more drivers dial in the understeer.

Let us know what you think about this combination. It looks like it could be a very interesting one.
