The Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo finally moved from concept art to moving footage. Polyphony showed the car at Gran Turismo World Series 2026 Round 3 in Singapore on 3 October, and confirmed it will be added to Gran Turismo 7 with the Spec IV major update later this month.
It is the latest in a long line of Vision Gran Turismo concepts, but this one has had a longer and more public run-up than most.
From Announcement to Singapore
The Xiaomi and Gran Turismo collaboration was first announced back in June 2025, which makes this a sixteen-month wait from reveal to footage. In between, a full scale concept model was shown at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March 2026, where it drew a lot of attention from well outside the usual sim racing audience.
That is a slightly unusual path for a Vision GT car. Most arrive as a design study that exists only in the game, with a physical model if you are lucky. This one had a proper public unveiling at a major technology show first, which says something about how seriously Xiaomi is treating it.
Sculpted by the Wind
Polyphony describe it as a concept electric hypercar sculpted by the wind, and the design backs that up. The cockpit is teardrop shaped and embedded into a body full of cutouts and air ducts, so air is channelled through the car rather than simply pushed around it.
The standout feature is the halo-shaped tail light, which doubles as a massive air outlet. It is both the car's visual signature and a functional part of the aerodynamics, which is the sort of detail Vision GT entries tend to do well.
Inside, Xiaomi have gone with something they call the Sofa Racer concept, which they describe as racing on a sofa. We will reserve judgement on that one until we have driven it, but it is at least a more interesting idea than another carbon tub with a racing seat bolted in.
Arriving with Spec IV
The car lands with the Spec IV major update in October, which is shaping up to be one of the bigger content drops GT7 has had. Spec IV was announced in early September with Autumn Ring, Sugo Circuit, a dozen cars and Shuffle Racing among the headline additions.
No specific release date has been given beyond October, and Polyphony have not shared performance figures for the Xiaomi yet. Given it is a Vision GT concept rather than a homologated race car, expect those to arrive when the update does.
If you want to see the reveal in context, Polyphony have pointed to the full Manufacturers Cup broadcast from Singapore, where you can watch the reaction in the room as the footage played.
Final Thoughts
Vision Gran Turismo cars are always a mixed bag. Some are genuinely great to drive, some are design exercises that handle like design exercises. What is interesting about this one is the route it took to get here, from a phone manufacturer that now builds actual electric cars, via a technology trade show, into GT7.
The aero-led design and that halo tail light should at least make it one of the more striking cars in the game. Whether it is any good once you are behind the wheel is the question Spec IV will answer.
We will update this when the full Spec IV details and a release date land.
Let us know what you make of the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo, and whether you will be giving the Sofa Racer a go.
