Overview
The Civic Si Group A was inspired by the MUGEN MOTUL CIVIC, a racing machine developed from the third-generation Honda Civic Si. This model marked Honda's return to DOHC engine technology in a production car after a 14-year absence. Competing in Division 1 of the All-Japan Touring Car Championship, which was reserved for vehicles with engines between 1001 cc and 1600 cc, the Civic dominated the 1987 season. It claimed class victories in all six championship rounds, earning Honda the Manufacturers' title that year.
