It’s both. Traces is a telemetry app first: it records every lap from GT7, with your speed, throttle, brake, steering, gears, tyres and your line on the map, and you can compare any lap against a faster one, corner by corner. On top of that it has a Coach, which reads your laps and tells you where you’re losing time and what to try next, like braking earlier, carrying more speed or getting on the throttle sooner. So the telemetry shows you what happened, and the Coach helps you turn it into faster laps. I went and bought a laptop just so I could download and use traces now that I'm using traces my tablet that I had showing my tire temperatures and whatnot Now does not work because traces is running but I click the button that says to allow pass through telemetry and it won't change it changes it to on but then it switches it right back

I've got 'Premium' status from purchasing the course, but it won't let me try traces without an ongoing subscription, is that correct?

Premium and the course are two separate things. The course is a learning module, while access to the app requires a Premium subscription.
So, you currently have access to the course, but not to the app itself.
